Canwood Legion Receives Donation

On June 7th our Canwood location teamed up with their local Affinity Credit Union branch to hold a fundraising BBQ for the Canwood Legion Branch #132. The weather cooperated and the community came out in full force to support the Legion. At the end of the day, $890 was raised.

Canwood Legion Branch #132 was established in 1930. A ladies' auxiliary was formed in 1949, and the current home of Legion Branch #132 was built in 1954. Currently the legion is made up of 35 members, all of whom are dedicated to serving the community and its many veterans. The legion also continues to support sports, as their members are active in both golf and curling, and have gone on to compete at the zone, district, provincial and national levels!

One major priority of the Canwood Legion is their commitment to remembering the sacrifices of our armed forces. The Canwood Legion provides Remembrance Day services for the schools in Canwood, Debden, and Spiritwood, as well as Whispering Pine Place and, of course, their own annual service at the Legion Hall. They are dedicated to serving their community, and honouring and respecting those who have sacrificed so much to guarantee the rights and freedoms that we all enjoy.

On hand to present the cheque were Carmen Endicott (Lake Country Co-op Food Store @ Canwood Manager) Bob Thompson (Legion President), Ruth Ziegeman (Poppy Chairperson), Jerry Ziegeman (Sgt. At Arms), Joanne Salahub (Affinity Credit Union), and Kirsten Vaugh (Lake Country Co-op Agro @ Canwood).
